Have I told you how much I LOVED Donna Downey's INSPIRED?! LOL! I know I only mention it every other post. To keep the inspiration going after the event, Prima is having an altered tote contest to those of us that attended INSPIRED!
My Canvas Tote is Inspired by Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" (Tim Burton 2010)
"Alice" by Avril Lavine is playing on my blog from the movie as well! (don't you just love technology)
I began by painting my tote in 2 shades of red acrylic paint - Christmas Tree Red and Red Pepper Red. Thank you Donna Downey for teaching me how to blend the paint, using water to create fabulous tone and depth.
I painted the Donna Downey's Fleur de Lis with black acrylic paint and allowed it to dry. For faster drying time I used my heat gun.
I I die cut Donna Downey 12x12 printed canvas with Spellbinders (TM) S4-136 Classic Heart by using the eyelet setting plate.
I painted 4 of them black and adhered to canvas tote with permanent fabric glue.
Stamp the word "Believe" with white acrylic paint and dry with a heat gun. Use a paintbrush to apply white paint to the edges of the Fluer De Lis as shown.
Here's a close up of the rose, which is partially painted red....because in the movie you can hear Alice saying "You could always just paint the roses red." I sanded an old paintbrush, painted it with red acrylic paint and left some on the brush. I applied a bit of Smooch glitter paint to the end of the paintbrush as well.
I added strips of ribbon to mimic the layers and layers of tulle, ribbon and satin that Alice had on her red dress. I live in Wyoming, in a very rural town, with VERY limited shopping.
I was searching high and low for some black and white ruffles....but couldn't find any anywhere! So, you've got to do, what you've got to do, and get creative! I saw these darling brand new women's undies with this fabulous black and white ruffles at the store. And guess what? I bought them, took them home and cut off the ruffle trim. It works! You never know where you'll find Inspiration!
I hope you enjoyed my altered canvas tote bag INSPIRED by "Alice in Wonderland" (Tim Burton 2010)
